This has bothered me for a while and i can't seem to find any good answers. Does not help that i have prior experience with a chromebook and my elderly parents are on the other end.

This could be due to a bad/unstable internet connection.
I recommend checking the connection on your parent's side and waiting 1-2 seconds before clicking, so the screen loads properly before the click.
