Possible scam

I received the following email from a source claiming to be TeamViewer QuickSupport?

“Hello, Please download the following software to start the remote control tool TeamViewer QuickSupport: http://connect.teamviewer.com/v15 Regards, LAPTOP-QHLGK1II www.teamviewer.com - Easy remote control & collaboration”

It just looks very suspicious to me and I thought I should bring the matter to your attention as a possible scam?

It is always a good idea to be diligent when such situations occur.

I have taken a look at the case and want to assure you that a connection would not be possible with the linked download unless the user who sent it was speaking to you directly.

Allow me to elaborate:

The first thing I noted is the link: http://connect.teamviewer.com/v15 - This downloads a generic QuickSupport app. QuickSupport does provide instant access to a device without installation - however, there is no unattended access.

This means that you would have to provide the displayed ID and password to the remote user before they were able to connect to you. So, if you are not actively talking to someone requesting to connect to you, even if you download and open the app no connection is possible if you do not provide the ID and password to anyone.

The second thing I noted is the context of the message. This is a generic invite sent via the TeamViewer app, from the Connection menu

This option creates the standard message you saw:

Please note, they are not purporting to be QuickSupport but rather sending a QuickSupport link to download via email. In my screenshot I am logged in so it shows my name at the bottom of the message. If a user is not logged in it would display the "name" of the device:

Now, with all that being said, the "why did you get this" could be surmised as incorrectly sent to the wrong person, or another unknown reason. The most important part, however, is opening this email or even downloading and opening a generic QuickSupport app cannot provide access to you or your devices unless you provide the ID and password displayed in the QuickSupport app.

In this case, you can simply delete the email received.
