TeamViewer will not open

I have an M1, 2020 MacBook Air, and have not opened TeamViewer successfully. I install it correctly but when I try to open the application it goes to a screen that says "No Internet Connection" and then the window closes. I use this tool to remotely control my 91-year-old father-in-law's computer, a brand-new Mac Mini. The application works perfectly. At this point, it doesn't appear to be a MacOS issue but rather some setting on my MacBook Air. Any suggestions?
