I tried following the instructions given here:

However, in the version I have of TeamViewer (v14, free account) I don't see the Extra Options or where to set the LAN connections.

Could you tell me which operating system you are using and the exact version of it?

I cannot see the Extras anywhere. I cannot see any equivalent screen to the one in your screenshot.
You will be able to find them under Extras → Options → General (as on the screenshot below):
