MACOS: must reboot target machine after each connection

I've added a machine to my moms apartment, and as she is blind, I'm remotely running various things for her as I can't be in person.  Every time on the first connection I have no issue.  Once I'm done and end the connection, if I try to re-connect it appears (on my end) to freeze resulting in us having to reboot the machine (as she can't see whats going on on her end).  Once the reboot is done, I can connect again.  Then when I end the connection, and attempt to re-connect (either within minutes / hours or days) it freezes after login, resulting in us having to reboot again.
