Signing In doesn't work on Home iMac?

Hello,

I have signed up for a free account on my office iMac and when I try to connect to it on my Home iMac, the sign in button is greyed out and it won't allow me to sign in?

I have also opened up a free account on my Home iMac, then tried signing in and the sign in button is also greyed out?

Incoming LAN connections on both iMacs is set to 'Accept'.

Both Firewalls are turned off.

Under 'Sharing' 'Remote Log In' is on on both iMacs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Please set one of the iMacs back to deactivated for incoming LAN connections. Is the sign-in button still greyed out?

Please also try to access the Management Console and let me know if you are able to log in there.

Hi Josh,

I'm currently using the office iMac and I have set the TeamViewer to 'deactivated' in 'incoming LAN connections'. On the office iMac I can access the Management Console without signing in. I will try this when I get to my Home iMac later tonight.

Do you have any other suggestions that I can take back home with me to try out?

Hi Max,

If the issue did persist past switching the home iMac to deactivated, I would try to create a mobile hot-spot, connect your iMac and use that to see if the issue persists.

I suggest this as well as the above as some ISPs actually block access to TeamViewer services. You can find an example below:

If you were able to log in when the setting was switched to deactivated, and you have not already, I would recommend a complete clean re-install, including removing any .plist files, as it would appear to be a device-specific issue in that case:

The setting in and of itself would not cause the sign-in option to be disabled, so I believe there is something between you and the TeamViewer servers that may be causing the issue.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for your help yesterday. You were right as it was a Talk Talk security issue. I have got through the sign in now, however I still cannot connect to my iMac in the office from my Home iMac. I have an ID, but no password on my office Team Viewer, yet on the iMac at home I have an ID and my password is different everytime it's open? In the general window, 'Computers & Contacts' when I go to add in a remote computer, I can add in my Home ID, but because the password changes everytime, then what password do I use?

Also in Preferences/General/Account Assignment, do I have to assign my Home account to itself or to the office account?

Hello Max,

That is good to hear! I am glad we were able to solve that one.

For the password issue, if there is just a dash ( -- ) in place of the password, you may have the random password (the one displayed) disabled.

For such connections, however, the best option is not to use the displayed password as this is designed to change. It is a better idea to use Easy Access, or a Personal Password for Unattended Access.

Easy Access uses your account to connect to devices in place of a password, and with an account set up with Two-Factor Authentication, this provides the most secure option. Easy Access would require you to assign the device you connect to to your TeamViewer account.

Allow me to link to an older post from an earlier post, regarding macOS and the 'Helper Tool', by @MoreCoffee:

This message can occur if the version of the helper tool that is installed does not match the version and/or product of TeamViewer that is attempting to talk to it.

This can happen if you have multiple different versions of TeamViewer on your Mac, or if you moved TeamViewer outside of its standard location in Applications. It can also happen if the TeamViewer app you have installed has been damaged.

To fix this:

1. Download the most recent version of TeamViewer from the official download page (if you are using TeamViewer Host, download that).

2. Install it (no need to uninstall before). TeamViewer should come back up just fine, but I'd still recommend doing this with physical access to the machine, just to be 100% safe.

3. TeamViewer should now be up and running again normally, but don't stop yet.

4. Locate any other copies of TeamViewer that you may have on your Mac. Please delete those (or archive them some place where you won't accidentally open them). There should only be a single TeamViewer or TeamViewer Host app remaining on your Mac, and it should be located in your Applications folder.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for replying to me so quickly. I tried the above last week (uninstalled the previous version, reinstalled the up-to-date version and then restarted), but the Helper window still opened? I don't know what else to try as this issue is preventing me from working remotely.

Thank you for your post, and welcome to the TeamViewer community!

You mentioned that Incoming LAN connections is set to Accept. Could you please verify if it is actually set to Accept Exclusively?

As mentioned in our LAN article, this setting will prevent account login when set to Accept Exclusively.

Just to be safe I tested this myself on my own Mac; when set to Accept I was still able to log in.

Please double-check this setting and let me know if this is the case! 🍀
