No connection with screen is off

Hello there,

I sometimes use TeamViewer for Android and Host apps to control an Android smartphone from another.

Well, I recently noticed that this no longer works if the screen of the device to be controlled is off.

This happens only from Android to Android, while remote connection works fine from Windows to Android.

Any suggestions?

Regards

  • my Teamviewer is stuck on "starting remote session" it used to work normal until they blocked me for using it for commercial use even though i didn't since i always just connected to my own remote pc anyways i applied it and they approved it and now its just stuck on that but if i open on teamviewer on my mobile app it seems to just appear on both my phone and my pc but this isn't practical since i would need my phone on me if i wanna use it on pc .

i have uninstalled teamviewer cleared it from reg editor and still get the same thing ive done it on my other pc also

  • In my case, this happens when I have no monitor connected to the remote PC. Plug in a monitor and boom - connection complete.

  • Is this a new think? I have used my PC for a while now and a turned off projector is what has been plugged into it.

  • This issue popped up for me a few days ago, after apply recent TeamViewer upgrades. It's affecting three of the ten Windows laptops I've connected to regularly for years (no monitors attached, network access via ethernet RJ-45s). Nothing else has changed in my environment.

    Any solutions?

  • Did you figure this out? I got blocked like OP, applied for reset, it was fixed after a follow-up ticket. But, now my other desktop which has a monitor connected but is off (more often than on), but plugged in via HDMI sits at the dreaded waiting for monitor screen, but as you noted, as soon as I turn on the monitor it goes right in. This seems to only be happening for the updated version, am guessing I might have to go back to a previous version unless TV can figure out an updated fix.

Up until about 2 weeks ago, I would turn off the monitor on my PC and was able to connect to it and manage it from my laptop. Now, when I connect I get to the "Starting Remote Session" screen and it stays there. How do I get that access back?

    Hi @jazzybob

    Welcome back to our Community🙌

To understand better your case, we need more information, such as TeamViewer versions on both sides of the connection and a screenshot of the error message.

Because if you are a free user with the new version of TeamViewer, the Wake on Lan option is no longer available as shown in the following announcement TeamViewer Remote’s Free Version Redesign.

If you have a license, we can find a solution for you with the details we asked you above.

    Have a nice day!

    Valaria2,

I read the Free Version redesign notice, it talks about the "Wake On LAN" no longer being available. But when I'm connecting to my PC, the monitor is powered off, but the monitor connection on my PC is still active. My PC never goes into Sleep Mode.

    In response to your request:

    1. My laptop is using TeamViewer v15.49.2 (df8e23a4102)

2 My PC is also using v15.49.2 (df8e23a4102)

I've enclosed a screenshot of the screen I get, when trying to connect to my PC with the monitor powered off.

And just as an aside, the redesign notice talks about how the "changes were made to serve our free users better." but to be honest, you've taken away at least 5 features that

I'm sure people will miss. Maybe it's me, but that's not what you call serving users better. I won;t complain, because I am a free user, but I'm sure others will.

Thank you for you're attention in this matter.

  • I just have a white screen when trying to connect to a computer that does not have the monitor powered on. It's stuck on the "starting remote session" screen and won't go any further. It used to work correctly. I've already tried the DisableVirtualMonitor reg edit and that did not work. I placed that setting in the current user and local machine Hives in their respectful locations Any other suggestions are welcomed.

  • One other thing I forgot to mention, once the monitor is powered on, I am able to connect to it with no problems.

it seems Teamviewer does not care whoever cannot connect while monitor is off. I have been searching about this connection issues, none solution pops up from Teamviewer. I tried many many ways, still no luck, I have enough about this, just waste of time. I have only 2 months business membership left, must move to other program.

    Hi @Rastlin,

Welcome to the TeamViewer Community and thank you for sharing the details of your use case 🙌

Our technical teams are aware of an issue with offline monitors that can affect some connections and are working on it.

The fix will be deployed with one of the TeamViewer releases as soon as a solution is found.

We strongly recommend that the TeamViewer modules installed on both sides of the connection are always up-to-date.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.

    Best,

  • Both sides are updated on my connections. 15.49.3 and no newer updates are available according to the application.

  • I've the same

    starting remote session

issue that started a few weeks ago, so hit and miss which PC's it will fully connect to.

TV support just say they are very busy atm!

Sorry to say that v15.50.5 didn't solve the problem for me. Still can't connect to the remote PC. This even happens when I'm talking to someone who is using the remote PC. They can see that I'm trying to connect, but I still am getting the "display parameters" message.
